Exhaust Analysis for Forklifts
Exhaust analyzers are especially important for maintenance of forklifts, lift trucks, and other material handling vehicles. In particular, the exhaust emissions must be carefully controlled. Several factors combine to make forklift operators vulnerable to carbon monoxide poisoning:
- They are often used indoors or in confined spaces.
- They are usually not equipped with emission control systems.
- Lift truck engines are often tuned 'by ear', or for maximum speed performance, which causes increased CO emissions.
A regular maintenance program, including exhaust gas analysis, is required to maintain a safe working environment for lift truck operators. Unfortunately, most exhaust analyzers are not designed to measure the emissions of propane powered vehicles.
Xaustalyzer.com has a full line of exhaust gas analyzers that accurately measure the exhaust emissions of gasoline and alternative fuel engines. Alternative fuel applications are not an after-thought in these instruments, they're part of the basic design. Their Fuel Selection feature that lets you choose the fuel for each vehicle you test. Each of the choices (Gasoline, Propane, or Natural Gas) re-programs the analyzer for maximum accuracy with that fuel. In addition to accurate measurement of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbon emissions, some models will directly measure combustion efficiency and indicate whether the engine's fuel mixture is too rich or too lean.
Our product support is unmatched, we'll get you all the information you need to create a successful lift truck maintenance program.
It's a good idea to be careful with indoor vehicles, even when they're in good condition. Be sure to observe these simple precautions at your facility:
- Use forklifts in well-ventilated areas.
- Let cold engines warm up outdoors.
- Use good driving techniques; avoid cold starts, jerky operations, or racing the engine.
- Train personnel to recognize the symptoms of CO poisoning.
